Welcome, Danny!

Danny Jantzen, New ReStore Manager

Danny Jantzen joined the WCHFH ReStore team as its manager in late June. He lives in Hackettstown with his wife Bonnie and their two teen aged daughters. We interrupted his busy day to ask a few questions to get to know him better.

How did you hear about the opening at the ReStore?

“I heard about it from Diane, a friend from church. I run a martial arts gym in Hackettstown and was looking for a second opportunity. I had three job offers, but knew immediately that I would take the ReStore manager’s job.”

How did you know?

“There were a number of reasons. First, I really like the idea of helping families and it’s great that the ReStore profits are used to build Habitat homes. It doesn’t get any better than that.

“Also, Ben (Ben Eskow, Executive Director) and Melissa (Melissa Flynn, Director of Operations) are great. They both have a high level of energy and deeply care about the Habitat mission, and they still have fun doing their jobs. And I really love managing people and getting to a common goal.

“I also just love used things! I always have. I like to refurbish things, tinker with them, paint them, whatever, and it’s great to see how you can improve something that someone threw out. ”

What has surprised you the most about the ReStore so far?

“I’m surprised at the level of dedication of the team. Almost all are volunteers and they’re very hard-working. The staff is terrific, and everyone just has a really positive attitude about them. It’s a great atmosphere.”

What is your biggest challenge?

“It’s definitely trying to focus on the hot items. There are a lot of things that need attention on a day to day basis. An example – we’re lucky enough to have a lot of supporters in Warren County who want to donate items to the ReStore. But it’s difficult to quickly get the truck to everyone who’s asked for it. Right now, we have a backlog of about eighty donors, but we’re working to bring that number down.”

What’s next for the ReStore?

“I have ideas, but right now, I’m still learning all I can about how it operates. I’m excited to be here and I’m excited about having Ben’s and Melissa’s trust. It’s a big responsibility!”
